Le Pinocchio

Arguably competing with Mario's for Lausanne's best pizza, Le Pinocchio incorporates all the facets of a standard italian diner from aging charismatic waiters to a menu so vast that the first hour is spent just reading it! The restaurant is located on Avenue De L'harpe which leads to Ouchy and offers spectacular summer views. The ingredients used at Pinocchio are high quality and one of the best pasta dishes is the spaghetti with truffles and bolets. However, what clinches their position in our top 10 is their pizza. Sufficiently crispy, an easy thickness and perfectly cooked. I personally order the pizza bolognese however my colleagues are always satisfied with whatever pizza they take.

Chez Mario - A Legend Reopens

Situated in the heart of Lausanne on Rue du Bourg is a legendary pizzeria. Opened in 1958, Mario's has been serving locals and students a like for over 50 years. It shut down in 2008 but has fortunately reopened last year. The speciality is pizza. I highly recommend any of the unique creations on their menu as they are all superb. However, the standard pizza's are also on offer. There is also meat and pasta available. Typical italian bistro fare. The other night I ordered a pizza terra e mare which had courgettes, prawns, mushrooms and was covered in truffle oil. Absolutely scrumptious. A USP of the restaurant is the fact that all the walls are covered in messages and graffiti. You can just grab a pen and write on the wall!
