Chez Xu (Don't Judge a Book by its Cover)

Easily missable by even the Lausanne native, this inconspicuous joint in Tunnel (heineken beer sign is the only way to locate it) has won my heart for the best chinese restaurant in Lausanne. The added plus is that it is dirt cheap. Well not as dirt cheap as it used to be as now its becoming popular, but a group of four can still easily eat for as little as CHF 20 a person.
Some of my favorite dishes include:

  • Boeuf Croustillant
  • Porc Aigre-Doux
  • Boeuf Piquante - If you dare
  • On Choy - Morning glory
  • Prawns Sel et Poivre
Know what.. Fuck it... Its all good.  No matter what you order it will definitely be delicious.

A reservation is definitely necessary in the evening. Usually full of chinese and Asian people, this is a good sign for a highly authentic experience.

Delicious!

  1. Chez Xu has been for me a dilemma. It is probably the only restaurant in Lausanne that has its ethnic roots showing, but one can't exactly expect to have a healthy meal here. The dishes are almost all overloaded with MSG (Monosodium-Glutamate), this coats the insides of your mouth with no mercy, literally numbing all objective opinions on the actual ingredient tastes. The price has recently gone up as stated, with it, Chez Xu's unique selling point. The cheap unhealthy meal. I once looked peeked inside the kitchen, and trust me, wasn't too clean or HACCP.

Only place really to ask appreciate the Chingdao beer. Please don't ask for a Heineken here just because you see the sign. The fried dumplings, the green pak chai are among its best.
